The short version: Strummingbird lands at Kawana Sports Precinct on Sunday 18 October 2026, 12pm to 11pm. Country music, all day, all-ages, no pass-outs once you are in. Camping exists on site from Saturday. The other play - the one that still feels like a Sunshine Coast holiday - is a park-once Caloundra apartment fifteen minutes south: two beaches on foot, a west-facing rooftop at sunset, and a Level 12 rooftop (pool 26°C, spa 34°C, sauna) waiting when the last song ends.
This is mid-October content for people who already want the festival. The stay is the desire. Not a pitch about spare nights.
When and where is Strummingbird Sunshine Coast 2026?
Sunday 18 October 2026, 12pm–11pm, at Kawana Sports Precinct, 31 Sportsmans Parade, Bokarina QLD 4575.
It is the Queensland stop of a three-city run: Ballarat (Sat 10 Oct), Newcastle (Sat 17 Oct), Sunshine Coast (Sun 18 Oct). Organisers acknowledge the Kabi Kabi and Jinibara people as traditional custodians of this coast.
Official details live at strummingbird.com.au/sunshine-coast. Tickets are Moshtix only (Tixel for genuine resale). If a Facebook listing looks cheaper, it is probably not a ticket.
The festival is all-ages, with under-18s accompanied under the Youth Policy. There is a Family Zone. It is also a no pass-out site - once you leave, you do not come back in - so plan the day as a full day. Cashless. Plastic water bottle, small bag, patience.
Set times and the map drop closer to the date. We will not invent them.
Who is playing? (verify before you screenshot)
Do not buy this trip because an old poster still says Post Malone.
In late August 2026, Post Malone postponed his Australian and Asian dates and pulled out of all three Strummingbird shows. Organisers said the festival goes ahead. They added:
- Tyler Childers - Australian exclusive for Sunshine Coast and Newcastle
- James Johnston - all three cities
- Sam Barber - Ballarat only
Still on the Kawana-facing bill across official artist pages and the organiser announcement: Bailey Zimmerman, Cooper Alan, Stella Lefty, Dexter & The Moonrocks, Sunshine Coast's own Sammy White, and a deep Australian/US country bench (Brad Cox, Cam, Sons of the East, Sara Berki, and others). Line dancing with Maddison Glover remains part of the format.
Lineups move. Confirm the live bill on strummingbird.com.au/line-up the week you travel. The festival is still the festival. The headliner story is no longer last summer's poster.
Camping vs a Caloundra base (the honest split)
Strummingbird sells camping as a two-night add-on for Sunshine Coast: Saturday and Sunday, unpowered, toilets and showers, max four people. Official check-in opens Saturday 14:00 (and Sunday 08:00–14:00). Checkout is Monday midday. Published site prices at draft: free pitch $259 + $10, campervan hard-stand $285 + $10. You still need a GA ticket.
Two operational facts matter if you are deciding:
- The campground is separate from the festival. No pass-outs means you cannot drift back to the tent mid-bill and then walk back in.
- If you park a car on a camp site, it stays there until checkout. You are not popping into town in the hatchback between bands.
Camping is for people who want the dust and the 2am neighbour. It is a valid way to do a country festival.
The other way: sleep in a proper 2-bed apartment in Caloundra, park once, drive the short hop to Kawana on Sunday, stay for the whole 12pm–11pm, and come home to a 34°C spa and a quiet bedroom. Saturday - the night campers are checking in - you get the coast instead of a hard-stand. Kings Beach in the morning. Passage sunset. Dinner you can walk to on Bulcock Street.
That is not "better than the festival." It is a different weekend that still includes the festival.
Why Caloundra works as the Kawana festival base
Kawana Sports Precinct is a grassed, open site at Bokarina. From 111 Bulcock Street you are looking at a short northbound drive - typically about 15–20 minutes in ordinary traffic. Festival-day congestion will stretch that. Leave a buffer. You will still be closer than anyone who based in Noosa "because that is the famous name."
Caloundra is the closest real Sunshine Coast town to Brisbane. Festival guests driving up the Bruce have a one-hour-and-a-bit run to a walkable coastal town, then a local hop to Kawana on Sunday. The Caloundra vs Noosa comparison is the longer argument; the short one for this weekend is geography. The music is at Kawana. Your pillow should not be forty-five minutes north of it.
Park once is the operating system. Underground car, walk to coffee, walk to two waters, walk to dinner. The only time the car earns its keep is the Sunday run to Sportsmans Parade - and home again when the lights come up.
Two waters, because you will want them:
- Bulcock Beach / Pumicestone Passage - west-facing, calm, pelicans, the sunset that stops a conversation. This is also the rooftop outlook. Bribie. Glass Houses. Not the open-ocean whale line.
- Kings Beach - patrolled ocean swim, saltwater pool, the proper beach-day infrastructure a short walk away.
Pick them properly with Caloundra beaches compared. After an 11-hour festival, you will not want a debate. You will want the walk, the water, the rooftop.
A mid-October stay around Sunday the 18th
Build the festival as the Sunday. Let Saturday and Monday be the coast.
Saturday 17 October - the day campers queue
This is the camping check-in day on site. You are not there.
Swim. Passage kayak if the wind is kind. Hinterland if you want green. Happy Valley for sunset. Table on Bulcock Street you can walk home from. Then Level 12: 360° views, pool at 26°C, spa at 34°C, sauna. Go to bed like someone who has an 11-hour outdoor Sunday coming.
Mid-October is still humpback season on this coast (June–November). If you want whales, go east - Moffat Headland, ocean-facing lookouts, the rooftop's ocean aspect. Do not wait in the apartment for a blow. That is not how the building sits.
Sunday 18 October - festival day
Eat a real breakfast. Small bag (under A4). Empty plastic bottle. Photo ID if you are 18+ and want a drink. Cashless. You are in from 12pm; you are not coming back out for a nap.
Drive or rideshare to 31 Sportsmans Parade. Accessible drop-off exists; accessible parking is limited and permit-based - organisers want that requested in advance.
Stay for the bill. Childers if the exclusive holds. Zimmerman. Cooper Alan. Johnston. The locals. Line dancing when your feet need something other than standing.
When it ends, you are not finding a tent peg in the dark. You are fifteen minutes from a quiet apartment and a spa that is actually hot.
Monday - leave slowly
Checkout for campers is midday. You can match that, or you can swim first. Either way the car has been still since Friday, except for Sunday.
If you stretch the stay into a fuller mid-October week, Sunday markets on Bulcock Street are the other Sunday - not the 18th, which belongs to Kawana. Come early in the week or linger after. Do not try to do markets and a no-pass-out festival on the same calendar square.
Tickets, without the hard sell
Official tickets and current release prices live on strummingbird.com.au/tickets via Moshtix. At draft, adult GA was listed in staged releases from $209.95 to $269.95 including fees, with youth and junior tickets, and add-ons (Sittin' Pretty seating, Shotgun Fast Pass, Sweet Spot / Bells & Whistles VIP). Those numbers move. Confirm on Moshtix, not on a screenshot from May.
Camping is an add-on, not a substitute for GA.
We do not onsell tickets. We host the stay.
Where we sit in this (owner note)
I host Caloundra Escape - 205/111 Bulcock Street, Caloundra QLD 4551. Two bedrooms, two bathrooms, four guests. Level 12 rooftop. Rooftop on Level 12 with the pool, the 34°C spa, and the sauna that makes an 11pm finish feel like a decision you would make again.
I am not going to pretend a country festival is a spa weekend. It is dust, volume, a long Sunday. That is the pleasure. The stay around it should still be a Sunshine Coast stay - walkable, parked, two waters, a proper bed.
Direct bookings are invite-only for guests we already know and trust. Airbnb is the public listing. If that is you, request dates and we will confirm within 24 hours. No codes. No "festival special." Just the apartment, approved the way we always approve it.
